American Fyre Designs Firetables
Artisanal fire features. Strengthened stone. American made. An instant classic since conception, American Fyre Designs is no different — featuring such beautiful pieces as the contempo rectangle fire table (invitingly ambient), cosmopolitan fire table (tapered and tasteful), and the Versailles round fire table (elegant, but bold). They don’t just look stunning — all AFD products are built from incredible strength of glass fiber-reinforced concrete (GFRC), an innovative composite of cement, glass fibers, aggregates, and polymers. Big deal? Absolutely. This blend makes for a fire table that:
- Has higher tensile strength than steel or concrete
- Flexes with far greater strength than concrete
- Weighs 75–95% less than traditional pre-cast concrete
- Stays weather-resistant, fire-retardant, and impermeable
American Fyre Designs, funnily enough, starts with the furthest you can get from fire: a former fishing boat captain in Hawaii. To this day, few know what inspired Garry Lieser to start building concrete fire pits. Was it the burning beach torches at night on his return voyages? Long, hard days among the silhouettes of volcanoes? Isolation at sea? No matter the cause, the day came when he crossed paths with GFRC technology — the rest, as they say, is history.
As it turns out, we know history. Lucky us!
His rugged marine career notwithstanding, Garry Lieser had another love: interior furniture. He loved it so much that he formed his Orange County company, Designs By Garry, to build more of it. But it was at the turn of the millennium that our busy, ambitious friend envisioned his first prototype of a lightweight exterior fireplace — one, unlike anything else on the market, intended to be simply assembled in any backyard. Crazier still? It worked. For 20 more years, Designs By Garry grew to specialize in the design and manufacturing of modular exterior fire products: large and small fireplaces, fire tables, fire pits, and even fire walls. Upon acquisition by RH Peterson, Garry, his wife and business partner, and his entire team joined the company. Combining with RH Peterson’s Outdoor Campfyre Collection, they formed the basis of what would become American Fyre Designs.
